Alternative Kitchens was enlisted to design a kitchen that would seamlessly integrate with the classic styling of this older home. The homeowners required a functional kitchen that would cater to their growing family, busy lifestyle and love of entertaining. Space was an important consideration, as the kitchen needed to fill a vast area, while still feeling intimate and homely.
The Perfect Layout
Prior to renovation, the existing kitchen was separated from the family room by a dividing wall. Our team of tradesmen removed this wall to allow for greater flow, and to introduce the now open-plan kitchen and living area as the hub of the home.
The overall layout of the kitchen was also altered, with an appliance pantry and stainless steel fridge now located where the original cooktop and chimney previously sat. Shifting the cooking area and new suspended chimney breast to the rear wall made it more of a feature, creating an impact upon entering the space.
Clever use of Colour
The hand-painted gloss enamel, recessed shaker doors and panels create a soft and natural feel, providing an easy to maintain, high-quality finish. The subtle grey glass splashback gives a contemporary uncluttered appearance to the kitchen, complementing the colour palette of the home.
To add to the functionality of this kitchen, the large island bench with Caesarstone benchtop in ‘Calacatta Nuvo’ provided a suitable gathering spot for family and friends.
The kitchen now boasts three working areas – the breakfast appliance pantry with easy access to the fridge, a cooking zone with close reach to the sink and ample space either side, and the island bench.
Standing at the sink is a perfect vantage point to see into the spacious family room, and interaction within these areas of the home is fluent and unrestricted
